We understand many people have received a Chubby from a friend, or purchased it used, and need help learning about it. To that end, it is our pleasure to help you have a safe experience, regardless of where you purchased your Chubby Stove. Remember, never use any wax logs or easy light products to start any wood or coal stove. It can cause a dangerous puff back when you open the door, from the rush of air entering the stove. Use only paper and kindling wood to start your Coal Stove Chubby. One match, can light your Chubby for the entire winter.
Once the temperature falls below 50 degrees consistently, you can light an anthracite fire. You should also let your fire go out in the spring once temperatures rise to 50 degrees consistently. If you have a very tightly insulated home you may need to add a small vent to bring in outside air for combustion. This is necessary to keep any wood stove, coal stove, furnace, or other type of heating equipment drafting positively. A sign that you may have this problem would be a smoke or carbon monoxide detector going off, or your stove is not working properly. All homes should have both smoke & carbon monoxide detectors installed, it is the law in many states.
